PRICHARD, WV – On Thursday, February 22, 2024, R. J. Corman Switching Company, LLC, a subsidiary of R. J. Corman Railroad Group, held a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the start of operations of its Central Appalachia Inland Port at Prichard (CAIPP) division in Wayne County, West Virginia. The CAIPP is a 65-acre facility at the southern end of Prichard, WV, owned by the Wayne County Commission.
The ceremony celebrated the launch of a multi-phase project led by R. J. Corman Switching Company. In the project’s first phase, the company will utilize a portion of the site as a car repair hub. R. J. Corman Switching Company has established partnerships with railroads, car owners, and clients to operate mechanical car repair services at 12 other sites nationwide. In this first phase of operations at the CAIPP, the company will have diverse equipment and assets and a workforce of 14 employees covering various roles, including mechanical specialists, quality control, administration, and management. In additional phases, R. J. Corman Switching Company will seek to expand operations to various new capabilities to grow services and increase economic impact for the region.
State and local elected officials and representatives of R. J. Corman Railroad Group and the community were in attendance.
"This launch is the beginning of something great. We are here to work with Wayne County and help grow this asset together. The CAIPP is a great piece of infrastructure, and we are excited to be a part of it. We have an amazing team that will help us create a rail-centric location and create jobs for the community," shared R. J. Corman President and CEO Ed Quinn in his remarks.
"We are so happy when we walk into the CAIPP and see those men and women working who are Wayne County people. People that have good paying jobs with benefits. And there is going to be a lot more to come. I could not be happier with the affiliation that we formed here and the relationship with R. J. Corman," shared Wayne County Commission President Jeff Maddox.
"Trade is what makes things happen, and you are about to do this in a big way – we have so many products in West Virginia; the CAIPP opens the door to it. I am so proud of what is happening here and the people from Wayne County. Every single job makes a difference, and that money goes back into the community. I am proud of the company, the jobs that will be created, and how we are going to start blooming again," shared Congresswoman Carol Miller in her remarks.
"We are standing here welcoming R. J. Corman to Wayne County, a company that has built its reputation on reliability and responsiveness. Our attention lies squarely on the future and helping foster short-term and long-term economic success. This is the first of what is expected to be multiple phases that respond to the needs of the rail industry and regional firms and, by doing so, build good jobs and a brighter future. Wayne County and the broader region should feel renewed optimism for the Prichard site and additional economic investment," said West Virginia State Senator Robert Plymale in his statement.
