R. J. Corman Storm Team: Responding to Natural Disaster in Nashville, TN

On the night of March 2nd and into the morning of March 3rd, 2020, Severe storms and tornadoes plowed through central Tennessee, including the city of Nashville. The storms caused casualties, many people were injured, thousands experienced power outages, hundreds of buildings were wrecked, and debris was scattered everywhere. Amid this destruction, R. J. Corman crews stepped up to provide essential storm clean-up and restore rail transportation systems operations.

R. J. Corman’s Nashville Railroad Services Emergency Division reset multiple cars on the Nashville & Western Line that were blown over during the storms. R. J. Corman Railroad Company Engineering Team, Traincrews, and Group services also responded for brush cutting and debris removal. Tracks had to be inspected, and work was coordinated with utility companies to ensure that tracks were restored to safe working order after many utility lines had been downed. Additionally, construction work was required to rebuild a roof on a building at the Transit Solutions Group (TSG) site.

R. J. Corman’s Transit Solutions Group serves as the commuter rail operator of Nashville’s well-known WeGo Star (formerly known as the Music City Star). Within three days the TSG team had everything back online and in service with the Star operating as normal. R. J. Corman received great feedback from the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) on bringing the commuter train back into operation so quickly and running it with minimal delays the first day it was back in service. Frequent riders on this public rail were grateful when R. J. Corman restored operations. Many rely on the WeGo Star for transportation in and around the city.

R. J. Corman was pleased to have the opportunity to extend a helping hand after such devastation in Nashville, TN.
