R. J. Corman Signaling Provides Urban Transit Solution for SEPTA
After multiple years of arduous work, the R. J. Corman Signaling wiring shop has completed an impressive project. They have diligently wired 185 cases for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) through JJD Electric. SEPTA is the regional public transportation authority that operates services for nearly 4 million people in five counties in and around Philadelphia, PA.
This large project is just one example of the significant work that R. J. Corman Signaling does for its customers. This project shows R. J. Corman’s commitment to providing services for different segments of the railroad market.
These cases are put into urban areas; therefore, the technical configuration and structure differentiate from freight train signaling bungalows. Made of steel, instead of the more commonly used aluminum, these cases for transit trains have been specially designed to protect the crucial technology from the elements and vandalism and create a minimal visual impact in the urban landscape. These will provide critical information and instructions for the efficient and safe operations of SEPTA's passenger trains.
There are two main sizes of the total number of cases: an 81-inch case with two doors and a four-door design measuring 116 inches. When the team members finish ten units, they ship them to the customers for installation.
In addition to these cases, the Signaling team wired 9 large 10 by 10 feet steel bungalows. These large houses have solar-powered technology and other instruments, including a router.
The wiring Team is taking the quality of their work up a notch, improving details such as utilizing self-tapping screws to proposing customers use wire chases for the 10 by 10 ft bungalows, which allows safe management and containment of wires and cables to the different connection points.
