R. J. Corman Railroad Company, LLC Constructs New Maintenance Building in Russellville, KY
RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – R. J. Corman Railroad Company, LLC is currently building a new maintenance shop in Russellville, Ky. This location and the recently rebuilt facility in Guthrie, Ky. will service locomotives traveling on the railroad company’s Memphis Line.
R. J. Corman Railroad Group’s Buildings and Structures Department began work on the Russellville facility in April. The building is projected to be finished in September of this year. The project manager, Dustin Hall, stated that the crew had recently completed framing and trussing the building and that they hoped to be installing the walls very soon.
The 12,600 square foot building will house a large warehouse and a suite of offices. When completed, it will have two fully equipped service bays that will be able to hold up to six locomotives at one time. This facility will also provide the company with the opportunity to perform more efficiently. Adding a second fueling station on the Memphis Line will save time, money and around 40,000 gallons of fuel each year.
After a fire destroyed the Guthrie, Ky. bay in October 2014, a goal when designing new facilities was to ensure that fire safety was a high priority. “New policies and procedures have been put in place to help prevent fire from reoccurring in one of these buildings,” Hall said. Firewalls, a new fire monitoring system, explosion proof wiring and updated ventilation will all be installed during the construction.
