The railcars that are utilized to move Hazmat and chemical materials on the railroad are similar to the ones used in other modes of transportation, but they can store a much larger amount of material. This makes the process of transporting and transloading a matter of precision. One of our pillars at R. J. Corman is that safety is our priority, when it comes to transporting hazmat and chemical materials, our diligence and attention to detail sets us apart. Our commitment to safety, technical capability, and vast resources make us the best choice to transport and transload any hazardous material.
Butyl Acrylate is a chemical used in manufacturing paints, sealants, plastics, and other products. This is the cargo that we transport and transload for one of our full-service clients. Due to it being mildly toxic in small quantities, larger amounts require a different approach. Before any movement of the product is made, our highly trained team members must make sure to follow a strict and thorough safe handling procedure. While wearing special personal protective equipment they inspect the tanks and bulk trailers that will receive the chemical and verify that they have the necessary storage capacity.
Next, our teams make sure to test the eyewash and portable shower unit in case an emergency occurs. Subsequently, after checking that the bulk trailer is properly positioned, they connect the transloader unit, making sure to always check the pressure and load inhibitors if required. A series of technical procedures are followed such as attaching the vapor recovery line, testing the overflow probe, and a continuous assessment of the product’s temperature and pressure. After examining connections, railcar, and trailer for leaks, our team proceeds to apply security seals to the trailer and railcar and record numbers on the loading checklist.
Whether at a full-service or self-serve capacity, our equipment is scalable to our customers' needs. At R. J. Corman, we are not only a service provider but a solutions provider.
